Professor Tim Winter, lead investigator on the Comfort Futures Project, has been selected to feature in the upcoming Australian Academy of the Humanities publication, The Power of the Humanities. Profiling the work of Australia's humanities researchers and their contribution in assessing societal challenges and delivering wider benefits to society, the publication will be launched in September at the Australian Parliament House by the Minister for Education, Christopher Pyne. Professor Winter's contribution overviews his research on the 'cool living heritage' of Singapore, Malacca and Qatar and the traditional social and cultural practices that offer low carbon alternatives to air-con. Winter states his overall aim is "to make air-con a more contested issue, by initiating debate and challenging social expectations and norms of comfort".
The 'Power of Humanities' publication, now has its own page on the Australian Academy of Humanities website. For launch speeches and the media release for the launch event, please click here.
